Green Light Puppets
ripple effect
Middle and high school students laugh, learn, love
RIPPLE EFFECT PROGRAM OVERVIEW
We train middle- and high-school youth, who then teach elementary students to share the teachings at home, creating a ripple effect of learning, environmental education, performing arts, and youth leadership
Middle and high school students will develop performance, communication, and teaching skills while serving as environmental ambassadors for younger students. They will also learn about the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization and its projects, like the Upper Harbor Terminal project.
- The Partnership: The Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO), We All Need Food and Water, and Minneapolis Public Schools.
- The Training Pipeline: Teaching artists from Green Light Puppets will train middle and high school students.
- The Curriculum: Older students learn about water, stormwater management, the MWMO, local projects like the Upper Harbor Terminal, the art of puppetry, and leadership skills.
- The Performances: Trained middle and high school students will perform water-focused puppet shows for elementary students during school and after-school programming.
- Community Tour: The youth will take the shows “on the road,” performing a minimum of three times at nearby Hennepin County Libraries (such as Webber Park, North Regional, Northeast, Pierre Bottineau, and/or Sumner) and at Hall STEM Academy, which is within walking distance from the high schools and next to the middle school. Each student will receive a $50 stipend for each show they help perform and/or group they help teach and do activities with.
