Info. below is adapted from passivehouseminnesota.org
Passive House is the most comfortable, economical, and energy-efficient building standard in the world. It aims to reduce energy use in buildings by 90% while maintaining comfort and indoor environmental quality. A passive house allows the owners to essentially skip the utility bill.
When combined with renewable energy systems such as solar photovoltaic or solar thermal, Passive House puts true zero-energy buildings and carbon neutrality within reach.
The name Passive House is derived from the German term “Passivhaus,” which describes a building that is predominantly heated by “passive” means, such as passive solar, or internal heat gains from stoves or body heat. As compared to a “conventional” building which is typically heated by large “active” mechanical systems.

Laughing all the way! Although climate change is no laughing matter, approaching the solutions with joy, connection, and humor is as helpful as it is fun. Join us for a horse-drawn sleigh ride as we converse over cocoa about a solution to help us drastically reduce climate-warming emissions: passive houses.
Yes, we know that our November FUN Event toured a passive house but passive houses deserve two months of attention because they are remarkable. And, in case your friends missed the November tour, they have another chance to learn about them. We don’t want them to completely miss out. After the education conversation over cocoa around a bonfire, we’ll take a horse-drawn sleigh ride in our winter wonderland. If you know any good (clean) jokes, we’d love to hear ’em.
