Thank you, Capitol Region Watershed District, for helping us bring water education to Saint Paul’s second graders! We believe that the key to tackling environmental challenges is rooted in education—especially when it’s fun, engaging, and hands-on. That’s why we are so grateful to the Capitol Region Watershed District for their generous grant, which allowed us to bring essential water education to 150 second graders in the Saint Paul Public Schools summer program this past June and July.
Through this partnership, we were able to introduce students to the importance of water conservation and pollution prevention in a way that truly sparked their curiosity and creativity. The students were not only treated to interactive Green Light Puppets shows, but they also dove into exciting water-related STEM activities. One of the highlights? Turning paint trays into miniature towns where they learned how to prevent pollution from running off into our precious water resources. Using chocolate sprinkles and colored sanding sugars to represent pollutants, the students discovered the impact of everyday actions on water quality and explored creative solutions to keep their towns—and our real communities—clean and safe.
These activities embody our mission of reshaping unhelpful narratives about the environment into solution-based, action-driven programming that is rooted in equity and kindness. By fostering cultural change through storytelling and interactive learning, we are empowering the next generation to be stewards of the planet. And thanks to the support of the Capitol Region Watershed District, we were able to reach even more young minds with this vital message.
Water is life. Without a stable climate and clean water, securing life’s most basic necessities becomes a challenge. That’s why our work, along with the work of our partners, focuses on solutions that protect our climate and safeguard essential resources. These second graders are now part of that journey, and we couldn’t be more proud of their enthusiasm and bright ideas.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Capitol Region Watershed District for making this program possible. With their support, we’re not just teaching kids about water; we’re inspiring the leaders of tomorrow to create a future where everyone has access to clean water and a healthy planet.
